Ah, at last, someone has asked this question and provided the answer too.

I asked my husband long time back, when he brought home the money plant, “Why it is called the money plant”. He could not answer me.

Today I read in Times of India that money plant derives its name from its seed pods that looked like coins! How weird!

The TOI further says that the money plant is also called  jade tree or Lunaria Annue.
