Pichavaram is situated approximately 250 kms from Madras, near Chidambaram, the famous pilgrimage town.

Pichavaram is  a confluence of lakes meeting the Bay of Bengal and is surrounded by thick Mangrove forests. It is said there are as many as 400 small islands inside this spectacular place.

One of the unique sight in this place is salt crystal that are formed on the leaves of Mangrove trees.
